Gladys Tuffour, a nursing officer of Enyirese Government Hospital at Anyinam in the Eastern Region of Ghana, has been queried by the District Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Stella Kwafo, for not kneeling to apologize to a patient.
Reports have it that, the nurse in question was queried when he questioned a patient on admission with HPT urgency who left the ward without permission from the nurses to a next town for his personal bid.
The patient whose relative is an Assemblyman explained to the nursing officer that, he (the patient) sort permission from Dr. Hammond Moore, a medical Superintendent of the Facility which did not go down well with Gladys Tuffour, the nursing officer as to why a permission of this sort should be given to a patient without informing the nurses at the Ward.
The Assemblyman, who is a relative of the patient came to confront the nurse and later went to report to the Medical Superintendent.
The nurse was as a result summoned and accompanied by the DDNS and Medical Superintendent to render an apology to the man (patient) in his house.
The nurse upon reaching the house was asked to kneel down to apologize to the man which did not go down well with her, so she refused to kneel down though apologized while standing.
Because of this, the District Director of Nursing Services DDNS, has given the nurse a query letter for not kneeling and to explain to her why disciplinary action should not be taken against her;
- For dragging her feet when she (DDNS) came to call her so they all go together.
- For Putting up a negative behaviour when they got to the man’s house
- For refusing to apologize as agreed before going.
